In this recording from 1958, Professor Catalina Levinton reads poetry written by 20th-century Spanish and South American poets, including Nobel laureate Juan Ramón Jiménez (Spain), Federico García Lorca (Spain), José Santos Chocano (Peru), Gabriela Mistral (Chile), Alfonsina Storni (Argentina), and Rubén Darío (Nicaragua). Other poets whose work was selected for the album are from Uruguay, Mexico, and Colombia. Levinton’s reading in Spanish conveys the poets’ emotional and somber themes. The liner notes are in Spanish.
