Current Joys is the enigmatic solo project of Nevada born songwriter Nicholas Rattigan. While simultaneously writing and performing in his minimal punk two piece, Surf Curse, Rattigan has slowly crafted a catalog of heart wrenching no wave ballads under a handful of names (including The Nicholas Project and Tele/Visions), eventually choosing Current Joys as a permanent moniker. Despite the lack of uncommercialized culture and all ages spaces, Rattigan’s experience growing up just outside of Las Vegas helped shape the music and art he has created since moving away from home. For the past five years he’s drifted between the DIY music communities of Reno, New York, and Los Angeles while residing in each respective city, leaving behind a trail of harrowingly cathartic performances. His newest release, A Different Age, which is set to come out spring of 2018, is ripe with many of the the emotions and conflicts that have plagued Rattigan’s songwriting in the past, but far exceeds its predecessors with cinematic arrangements and some of his most poetic lyrics to date.
