On Retail Floor Under: Pavement (in Pop/Rock)

Making his intergalactic landing from his mark in the hierarchy of indie rock legends to the planet of moogs, drum machines, and other electronic beeps and boops alike, your boy ol' uncle Stevie's essentially set his phasers to imagination with this lil disc of wax. Ushering out a sound blending his trademark speak-singing and all the lo-fi synth clipping ever-present in a Tender Buttons-era Broadcast track, Stephen has almost unknowingly created something uniquely refreshing within the realm of basement-esque modular synth and drum machine experimentation. This record really feels like it stands within the Malkmus tradmark, but also welcomes in the drum machine and synths in favor over expected guitars with a Malkmus effort. If you're a diehard Pavement junkie, this may be a bit of a jolter for ya, but with an open mind and open heart to the ~Malkmus touch~, this record fels like something new and old at the same time. This here is a bit of a treat that we all may or may not deserve, but dig it, and dig deep, buddy. Uncle Shug signing off.
